In the dancing path of the 5Rhythms®, “God, Sex and the Body” is an initiation into being an embodied soul. It is a deeply personal journey, a celebration like no other, a ritual for the hot and holy you.
It’s a call to stretch our imaginations and move through a spectrum of feminine and masculine archetypes, to dress them up in ritual theater, to get inside them and give them expression. No one else can be a man or woman exactly like you. No one else can embody your soul, project your magic or have your specific curiosity. Part lover, part artist, part god, we were born to rock the world and feel our way into each others hearts.
This workshop liberates and inspires us to emerge a bit more fascinated with each other and the mystery of it all.
Alex Mackay has been teaching 5Rhythms for over 2 decades and is known for light and depth in her teaching, using few well chosen words, and opening a sense of wonder. She is embodied, energetic and creative.
This workshop is a prerequisite for the Teacher’s Training
“God, Sex and the Body is and always will be a profound and integral part of the 5Rhythms® curriculum. It has personally informed my way of being, my teaching style, and, most deeply, my acceptance of who I am and who I am not.”
“I grew up at a time of the battle of the sexes, patriarchy being questioned as it is in a new wave now, not exactly harmonious between the masculine and feminine around me, but my parents were going to call me Alex either way and I love that feeling that I can connect to both.
My creative self always led the way, finding relief and freedom when dancing and drawing – and although the body is my medium, using imagination and sculpting the mysterious have always attracted me just as much. I want it all – no divide between spirit and flesh, between the masculine and feminine within.. the lover to have desire and find beauty in many moments, the seeker to naturally connect to inspiration and devotion, the artist to design and take care of a life full of these riches.
“For 25 years I’ve witnessed Alex Mackay as a dedicated embodiment of all the maps of our 5Rhythms mandala. In her committed practice, a willingness to continue moving, exploring and seeing herself through the deep awareness of her own rhythms. In her teaching, a lyrical playfulness delivered with mystery, creativity, and maturity.
The more we co-created along her path studying our God, Sex, & the Body maps, the deeper my respect has grown for Alex’s embodied presence of the shapeshifter — a soul dancing without attachment and with intention to unearth the uniqueness and balance of nurture and action, of fascination and adventure, of intuition and integrity.”

Alex Mackay is a dancer and artist, who is known for light and depth in her teaching, using few well-chosen words, and opening a sense of wonder. She is embodied, energetic and creative, and loves to dance with the group. She is strongly connected to the birthplace of her teaching in Manchester and Liverpool, where community continues to spring from the 5 Rhythms classes there, 20 years later. Gabrielle Roth called her Raven Sister.
Joseph Caswell is a dazzling musician who has played music for 5 Rhythms for many years on unique percussion rigs and instruments from all around the world. He has played for Gabrielle Roth and Jonathan Horan. Playing music professionally since the age of 13, he has also investigated ancient tunes and sounds and made instruments himself.
Alex and Joe create transformative events with the pulse of the city and out in the wilds. They live in the woods of West Wales with their rock’n’roll son and their feisty pixie daughter
